Letter to Yeshivat Rambam Parents

The following letter was sent out to the Yeshivat Rambam parent body today. It contains a more complete outline of the evalution process and the work of the visioning committee, along with a summary of the conclusions and decisions. It's a very clear and concise summary of what was presented at the meeting; it does not address any of the questions that have been raised since the meeting, but does lay out the process and rationale behind the decision that abrogates some of those questions.

It's not clear to me whether this "bridge funding" is a donation or a loan.

Should a school that is already in financial turmoil be indebting itself further? I'm not saying that I have the answers to this school's problems, but I am wondering how this is different than the TA debacle from the 90s (other than the fact that TA had been around far longer than Rambam has been around now and therefore had more alumni/funding/donors willing to come to the school's rescue).

jstein,

You bring up very good points. I had heard form Dr. Sidransky it would be a donation(s) not a loan that they call the "bridge". He has been very active and accomplished in the past years with donations.

I suppose more will be known within the 60 day period they promised.

Greg,

I saw you closed Yeshivat Rambam: One Week Later.

Do not be so down based on that alumni comment. Whether or not the person was a true alumni (who knows in these blogs if a parent is a kid or a kid is a parent) is questionable.

Even if he/she was a alumni he-she stated that once Clarence was gotten rid of that was it for Rambam. Clarence was a wonderful person but was the head of the janitorial staff and that shows the seriousness of the poster. Also, Clarence left for a much better opportunity and most certainly was not let go.

Don't take all these comments so seriously as a reflection off the whole. As a parent of a graduate from around that period I can state emphatically of many fine graduates of Rambam (some of whom would not have sent their kids back to a coed Rambam due to issues they had been exposed to but now realize are not needed to accomplish the Torah and secular education they received). We are thankful that kids do grow as they also get exposed to the greater world.

Chani: thanks for your comments. Comments automatically close on posts older than 1 week, I have to look at how to change that.
