Condolences
The Baskin Robbins in Greenspring Shopping Center has closed, suddenly and unexpectedly. They are no longer open; today, the cash registers were locked and no ice cream was being sold.
The word is a kosher milchig restaurant is moving into the space. A dairy Accents, perhaps? If you were at my niece's bat mitzvah, you know they do a good job.
How could a restaurant of any significance fit in that space? We don't need another counter service pizza shop!

Well...if it was the same owners as Accents, maybe they could divy up the eating area outside the Accents part into separate milchig and fleischig sections and have some seating that way.
That seems about the only way it wouldn't be take-out.
Posted by: Eliezer at October 25, 2006 8:42 AMRumor has it that Cholent Shack, a new franchise, will be opening up in the BR space.
Posted by: Dr. E at October 25, 2006 9:41 AMThis information has been floating around Facebook for at least a week - I'm surprised you weren't privy to it.
Posted by: Diana at October 25, 2006 12:26 PMGreg is not privy to all the new S^*@. That's what he pays you for.
Posted by: Jackie Treehorn at October 25, 2006 12:57 PMIce cream isn't food. It's milk pretending to be a snack.
Why I have to continually make this point is beyond me.
Posted by: Moishe Potemkin at October 25, 2006 1:28 PMIt's a good thing I don't live there anymore... ;-)
Posted by: Sara K at October 25, 2006 5:22 PMmy gosh. i have memories from that BR that go back over 20 years.
Posted by: adderabbi at October 25, 2006 6:41 PMthere's a baskin robbins in the atrium? i never knew
Posted by: nyfunnyman at October 25, 2006 11:02 PMApparently, the owner of the Greenspring BR franchise did not renew his lease because the head company now wants all BR's to be combined with Dunkin Donuts, which he could not do in that space. Boo-hoo to all of us who could live without real food but could not live without ice cream.
Posted by: Beth at October 26, 2006 12:46 AMI am really not an ice cream person (if it were a pizza place or a place that sold big bowls of macaroni and cheese, I would tear kriyah!) so I am not personally saddened by the news but I am dreading one of my very nostalgic friends finding out about this. I can't deal with having to comfort yet another person about the loss of a stupid ice cream store (sorry, dear sister).
Posted by: peninah at October 26, 2006 9:57 AMThere was too much of a lack of tzinius in ansd in front of the store thats why Hashem made it close down.
Posted by: zev at October 26, 2006 4:41 PMI got the real "scoop" last night, it will be more like a cafe, with ice cream, paninis, expresso type drinks, salads and yes - cheese cake. "Cococcino" will be opening in January, there will be atrium seating. No pasta at the beginning due to the limited food prep.space. As usually all the naysayers in Baltimore are ready to put in down before they open the doors and they will be the first to cry in their lattes when the place does not do well. But the Franks (who also own Accents) have many years of catering and restaurant experience so I have faith that they will do it right.
