links for 2006-08-02

I just drove through Georgetown, DE last week on the way to Rehoboth; it's pretty much Judenrein. I'm all for taking on the Man, and I hope they win, but sometimes its better to just move to a Jewish neihgborhood.
Are you really finding links this late? Or do you have a cool script that posts them one per day?
Posted by: Diana at August 2, 2006 1:44 AMThe article says that the mother is Orthodox but I don't buy that for second.
It says she married "a local man" (Jewish or not?) and decided to raise her children as Jews. How come the father is never mentioned again? Where do they go to shul? Where is the mikveh? How do they get kosher food.
I agree with you. They shouldn't have to endure this but you have to pick your battles. Anyone who wants to live a Jewish life is crazy to be the only Jew in town!
The article mentioned that they moved out there to be close to the husband's parents, who were in a nursing home. While I'll disagree with you that one needs all the things you mention to be considered "Orthodox," you are probably right that the article is not dealing with your typical Baltimore Orthodox Jewish family.
On the other hand, the kid wore a kipah to school.
Either way, the point of the article is still valid even if they aren't really "Orthodox" by normative standards.
