The New Family Heirlooms: Board Games
Sky News: Monopoly Takes A Chance On Plastic
Monopoly board game players can now pay for properties with debit cards. Game makers Parker have phased out the standard multi-coloured cash in a new version. Players will instead use a Visa mock debit card to keep track of how much they win or lose. It is inserted into an electronic machine where the banker taps in cardholders' earnings and payments.I was just thinking last Shabbos that Monopoly was one of the few classic games that had not been modernized to make it non-Shomer Shabbos. The non-electronic versions of games like Monopoly, Battleship, etc. will become underground black-market items of extreme value in the frum community, with older versions passed on from generation to generation ("You may have got Zaydie's mishnayos, but I got his Shomer Shabbos Risk board game!").
