On Scotch Whisky

AlanLaz has a great series of posts on scotch whisky, including an excellent overview of the history and process behind whisky, as well as a brief overview of some of the kashrus concerns.

I recently began "getting into" scotch (thanks, Penny and Alan). So far, my collection includes a bottle of Aberlour 15 (Sherry Wood Finish) and a bottle of McClelland's Islay.

I must say I am not a connoisseur, however when I do have a drink I definitely prefer single malt scotch. That being said I never really appreciated the drink until I recently had Tomintoul Single Malt 27 Yr at my sister's l'chaim (no pun intended). It was truly the smoothest alcoholic beverage I have had. Now I understand the benefit of the older, more expensive scotches.

BO,
See, if you've would've told me that Tomintoul 27 would've been at your sister's lchaim when you invited me, I would've come. Damn you. Older doesn't always mean better, but as a general rule, it does. Whenever you wanna try some stuff, come on over - my collection is reaching the point of wifely intervention.
