You can fool some of the people...
I've written before about my lack of confidence in the proof of the Torah's divinity based on the you can't make this stuff up, there would be no possible way to fabricate it since so many people were involved. I'm often asked to present an example of how this would work, which is somewhat difficult since it usually happens over long periods of time. Anyway, it's nice to be able to point to a modern day example, Chabad.
I posted yesterday about the early Karaites:

It seemed to them that if a nonsensical oral Islamic tradition could be both made up in such a short time, a period of only a century or two, as well as such completely mutually contradictory views that this cast doubt on the Talmudic view of Torah and halakhah."
