Shomer Shabbos!

Rabbi Moshe Heinemann

SoccerDad emailed me an article from the Wall Street Journal detailing a ruling by R. Heinemann regarding the operation of commercial websites on Shabbos (if the article is unavailable on the WSJ's site, I've archived a copy).

When we learned Sukkah in YU, R. Schachter gave a shiur (beginning of the second perek, if memory serves me correctly; the sugya discussing הלוקח יין מבין הכותים) that dealt with this issue. From what I remember, R. Schachter's understanding of the gemara there lead to the conclusion that one could set up, before Shabbos, for transactions to take place on Shabbos, and there would be no problem. Looks like R. Heinemann agrees. Perhaps, if I have time, I'll dust off the old notebooks and write up the shiur.

And to give credit where it's due: I got it from Aishel's mother.
