Blog Baltimore Happy Hour

[via SupaMB]

Kelly over at i spy gemini has a brilliant idea: Hump Day Happy Hour for Baltimore Bloggers on Wednesday, March 31.

Who else is up for it? Location is still up in the air, but I think this is a good idea. Spread the word.

I'm good just about anywhere. Beer, thankfully, is almost ubiquitously kosher.

I have been in Baltimore about 2 1/2 years and I have been reading these BLOGS.....you guys and gals sound like a real cool bunch of people.

I would be interested in attending any get togethers that may be planned and meeting some of you.

I am a telephone contractor for AT&T and Talk America in the Baltimore region.....feel free to respond.

I am originally from NJ so dont make fun of my accent...LOL

You're misusing the word ubiquitous. I think you mean 'universally.'

Mitch - I can't speak for the rest of us, but I'm about as far from cool as you can get. My brother, on the other hand...either way, you're welcome to join in. Everyone's accents will be made fun of equally.

Zalmy (if that is you're real name) - I stand by the appropriateness of my usage. Lose the formalism, it's inevitably frought with contradiction (ask Godel).

I'm not cool, either. There's cool, waaaaaaay over there, and here's me.

The more the merrier, though, Mitch, and I promise a full dissection of your accent. Mine, however, is impeccable.

And ubiquitous is my second-favorite word, right after cromulent.

OK then in line with my NJ accent....I dont find any of youz kool......so I breaka you face....

Only kidding.....

Grr... Looks like I'm going to have to miss this one. Prior commitments and all...

As for beer being 'ubiquitously kosher,' technically it may not be correct, but I understood what Greg meant and that's what matters, right (a la Wittgenstein [how uncool is that?])?

Beer? Social Interaction? Greg? I don't know if I can handle this all at once, but I guess I'll sacrifice and "do it for the team" - Any idea on location?

Posted by: ravomess at March 12, 2004 1:09 PM

Maphet - we'll miss you, but I'll be sure to pimp Baltiblogs.

As far as 'ubiquitous' usage goes, I'm with you (and Ludwig). I'm trying to free your mind! I am the Morpheus of grammar!

I'm actually reading a book on Wittgenstein right now. Tres not cool (or !cool in Java).

Maphet's assumption that he understood what Greg was trying to say highlights the problem with the ubiquitous (sorry!) misuse of language. There is no shortage of impediments to communication - who knows how many and how varied are the associations one may have with any particular word, even when used correctly? Improper language, in addition to its internal obfuscatory elements, simply creates additional opportunity for confusion and misinterpretation.

More significantly, of course, while it is true that almost all beer is kosher, it is equally true that most cervezatoria do not offer Chimay, which poses a far, far greater threat to the success of the proposed outing.

Out him.

Actually, the place the Happy Hour is set for, Brewer's Art, serves Chimay.
