Things ain't what they used to be

The Baltimore Sun reports that Steelers punter Miller to play despite Yom Kippur conflict:

Pittsburgh Steelers punter Josh Miller will play in Sunday night's game against the Browns even though it falls during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religion.

"Every game counts. I couldn't even think of doing that [sitting out]," said Miller, a member of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. "I'm sure when it's all said and done, I'll have made the right decision by playing."

Yom Kippur runs from sundown Sunday to sundown Monday and is a day of repentance for those of the Jewish faith, who are supposed to refrain from working.

Miller, who played for the Stallions of the Canadian Football League, was reminded that Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax skipped pitching in a World Series game because of Yom Kippur.

"Sandy Koufax sat out that game, but he was still able to pitch in the World Series," Miller said. "If we had a bullpen of six punters, I wouldn't play. But there's only one punter. I have to play."

I tell ya', kids these days, they just don't have the kinds of role models we did...
